By most accounts, the wheels are off the machine. The record industry is being forced to reinvent itself in the face of the digital revolution. It doesn’t take a “record deal” to make and release music anymore. With the advent of the Internet, it doesn’t take a distribution deal to get your CD into the hands of your fans all over the world. (CDBaby.com, just a few years young, has already paid independent artists more than $4,000,000 in sales revenue!) With such technology readily available, there has never been a better time to be an “indie” artist and forego any association with a record label. But, even with mergers and closings and reductions in staff at record companies, primarily due to a serious recent decline in CD sales, we here at Down In Front Records choose to embrace these new technologies and marketing opportunities rather than lamenting what “use to be.” Music is a staple of the human condition. People will still buy good music. People will still pay to see a good live show.

The challenge, it seems to us, is to MAKE BETTER MUSIC, produce better acts, and make both more accessible (and less expensive) than they have been in the past. Why are news stories being written about the “demise of the album”? Why are music lovers, young and old, scouring the Internet to find and download the single songs they love? Could it be that we are becoming a “single song” musical culture because so few labels and artists are releasing albums that contain a set of great material worth owning and listening to over and over again? We think so. Music has become more and more disposable - and less collectable.

While our focus is on longevity (not "flavor of the week" musical fads), we know that what YOU want from us is every bit as important as what WE want to deliver. Down In Front Records will offer our music on CDs and as digital downloads. We will attempt to make it as easy as possible for you to buy and enjoy the music YOU like. We will also be communicating with you.

That’s why we ask that you REGISTER on our website. We want to hear from you and we want to build a relationship with you. Yes, we’ll be doing all those things record companies typically do: promoting to radio, securing retail distribution, advertising in trade publications, etc. But all of that will be guided every step of the way by how YOU, our fans, respond to our products.
